Friends of Fine Arts

2019-2020 Fine Arts Season:

Calvary Fine Arts provides a variety of opportunities to grow and develop the creative gifts that God provides us. Whether it is an award-winning choir, dynamic musical, or beautiful visual projects, we offer diverse training to help students reach their creative potential.
Latrevo, Refuge and Knightingales
The high school choir, Latrevo, has many opportunities throughout the year to participate in advanced choral activities in Georgia and other states. Programs and opportunities for Latrevo students include:
- Stetson University Honor Chorus
- The GICAA Honor Chorus
- ACSI Choral and Solo Festival
- GMEA Choral evaluation, District 3 Honor Chorus
- GICAA Regional and State Literary Competitions
- Christmas Concert and Spring Concert
- Grandparent’s Day performances
Each year a trip involving many individual performances is planned for our Latrevo students. There is a focus on outside ministry through music in this group. Therefore, the trip is focused on performance and service. The students enjoy their time as they travel to new places and perform for different audiences. During daily music class, these students learn to sight-read music, sing with proper vocal techniques, harmonize with other parts, sing in various styles, and to minister to others with their music.
Literary Arts Competition
In the third quarter of each school year, Calvary participates in the GAPPS (formerly GICAA) Regional Literary Arts Competition. There are two competitions, Regional and State. These competitions allow individuals to showcase their talents. The following musical categories are offered:
- Boys Soloist
- Girls Soloist
- Quartet
- Trio
- Piano
Theater Arts also sends representatives yearly to compete in the theater components of the two competitions.

Musical Arts
The Middle School choir, Refuge, is composed of many talented middle school students. During the course of the year students learn to sight-read music, sing with proper vocal techniques, harmonize with other parts, and work as a team. Performance opportunities for these students have included:
- District 3 Honor Chorus
- ACSI Choral and Solo Festival
- GMEA District Choral evaluation
- “America Sings”
- Christmas Concert and Spring Concert
- Grandparents Day performances
- Performing for local nursing homes and at local venues
Refuge takes the opportunity once a year to perform in Georgia outside of our local area. This is an overnight trip that allows our middle school students to experience performing for a different audience. This trip also includes a community service aspect to show the students how to use their talents to enrich the lives of others.
Knightingales and Music Classes
The preschool and elementary music classes offer students the opportunity to explore the many aspects of music. Some of the interesting topics covered in the music classes are music theory, instruments of the orchestra, composers, music from around the world, and musicians from the 20th century until now.
Third through fifth graders may choose to participate in our elementary performing chorus, the Knightingales, which rehearses after school once a week. Selected fifth grade students have the opportunity to join a fifth grade ensemble. Both of these groups are featured in our Christmas Concert and Spring Concert. They also participate in our Grandparents Day performances.
Private Lessons
CCS offers private voice, piano and guitar lessons on campus as part of our enrichment programs. For more information about any of our Musical Arts opportunities, please contact our Admissions Director, Sara Ketcham.
Visual Arts
The visual arts program at Calvary consists of a challenging and enjoyable curriculum. From clay, to paints, to markers, the students use many different artistic forms daily. They also learn about art history and appreciation. Art classes start in the preschool and continue through the high school level. Artwork from students is also displayed around the campus. For more information about Calvary’s visual arts program, call our Admissions Director, Sara Ketcham, to visit the campus and see our art classes in action.
Theater Arts
The theater arts program at Calvary is an award-winning addition to the Fine Arts program. Students have academic opportunities to learn theater from educators who have a love for both drama and a Biblical worldview, and our competitive teams have consistently produced “Top Performers” at both regional and state competitions. Directors provide opportunities for performance throughout the year, and it culminates with a spring musical that features many students from 3rd-12th grades. We also provide opportunities for those who love the technical side of theatre! Our tech team trains and prepares those who desire to work in areas behind the stage in lighting, sound, construction, and choreography.
