FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, May 16, 2019— Calvary Christian School (CCS) is pleased to announce seniors Max Eikelberry and Stephen Smith have signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Trinity Baptist College. The signing took place in the lobby of the CCS gym on Thursday, May 16, 2019, with family, friends, CCS coaches, baseball teammates, and school staff present.
It is very rare to have two players have the opportunity to be teammates in t-ball, little league, high school and now have the opportunity to play together at the college level. Both Stephen and Max have had a strong bond through their time as teammates as they have pushed and encouraged each other over the years. They both possess a great work ethic and come with a winning pedigree. I am confident that they will have the same impact at Trinity Baptist College. Coach Copeland and Coach Shiver will be pleased with two incredible young men they will be getting this fall.” – Stephen Smith, Calvary Head Varsity Baseball Coach
Max Eikelberry has been a part of the baseball program at Calvary since his junior year. He has been a varsity starter for both years and was a varsity starter at St. Anne-Pacelli for two years. Max has been one of the hardest workers on the team, setting the tone for the team specifically in the weight room. He has improved in every aspect of his game over the last two years in speed, strength, power and arm strength. Max has been one of our key run producers in the middle of our lineup amassing 65 RBI’s in two years which ranks seventh all-time. He solidified the lineup over the last two years and was a key member in the back to back State Championships. His extra base power, 31 2B’s, 2 3B’s and 6 HR’s will translate well as a run producer at the next level.
I have had the pleasure to coach Max at various levels Including t-ball, little league and high school. I am proud of Max’s personal accomplishments on the field, but I am even prouder of the growth in Max as a young man and his developing walk with God. I am excited for Max and this opportunity to continue his baseball career at Trinity Baptist College. I can’t wait to see how God will continue to work in and through Max at Trinity.” – Stephen Smith, Calvary Head Varsity Baseball Coach

Stephen has been a part of the baseball program at Calvary for the last six years. He has been on the varsity team for the last four years and a key contributor as a starter over the last three years. Stephen’s work ethic and mentality have been driving forces in the success of the teams he has played on at all levels. His two-run double in the top of the seventh in game two of the 2017 State Championship proved to be the game winning hit, breaking a nine-nine tie and will go down as one of the biggest hits in Calvary’s history. As a pitcher he is among the career leaders in ERA (fourth) and strikeouts (seventh). Defensively, Stephen has played three infield positions including his Sophomore year when he was named Defensive Player of the Year when he locked down second base only committing three errors in 58 opportunities. Stephen has been a leader and an encourager as a captain for the last two years and has played the game with a smile since the first time he stepped on a baseball field 12 years ago as a t-ball player.
As Stephen’s father, it has been my pleasure to sit in the same dugout with him over the past decade. I am happy for Stephen and this opportunity to continue his baseball career at Trinity Baptist College.
