Calvary Alumni Spotlight – Kendall Wesely

KENDALL WESELY
Year graduated from CCS: 2011

Family: Ross Wesely, husband and Mike and Denise Morris (works in CCS preschool), mom and dad

College Attended, Major, and Year Graduated? I attended Kennesaw State University and studied Early Childhood Education. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in May of 2016. I am also taking classes at Kennesaw State University to receive my Master’s degree in Reading Education. I plan to graduate this program in May of 2019.

What made you decide to become a teacher? I have always loved

children. I started babysitting as a teenager and knew I loved working with children. Although I have always loved children, I didn’t always think I would become a teacher. It hasn’t been my dream since childhood. When I graduated from Calvary and moved to Kennesaw, I explored a few career options: exercise science and non-profits, but I just never felt they were the right fit. My sophomore year of college, I got a job as a nanny. It was through this experience, with helping my girls with their school work and seeing the moments of realization for them, that drew me to pursue a career in the education field.

What grade do you teach and where do you teach? I am currently teaching first grade at Woodstock Elementary School in Woodstock, Ga.

How long have you been teaching? This is my second year teaching.

Do you have any interesting stories or blessings you wish to share since you started teaching? I don’t have any one story that has blessed me. I will say that walking through a whole school year with a group of students is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. Seeing the growth from day one to the last day of school is what makes this job worth it. I love that I get to impact children every day for a career.

Any life events you wish to tell us about? My husband, Ross, and I got married in May of 2015. This has probably been the greatest life change since I graduated from Calvary. It is awesome having such a godly and wise life partner. And this past month we bought our first home together! It is a very exciting time for us.

How has Calvary impacted you since graduation? You know how sometimes you don’t really know how special something is until you leave it? I feel this way about my family. My parents are amazing and I have come to appreciate them so much more now that I am an adult and I can look back on how they raised me. I also feel this way about Calvary. I loved my time there, and found life-long friendships, people who I consider to be family. However, I didn’t really feel the impact until I left. I am so grateful for the strong foundation for my faith that developed during my time at Calvary. Leaving a school I had been at for ten years and moving to a new place where I essentially knew no one was a huge step. I know that my time at Calvary helped so much in creating my faith and strengthening it before I took that leap into adulthood.

What are your plans for the future? I have quite a few! I will tell you about my two favorite goals for the future. I would love to become an administrator one day. After I complete my Master’s, I plan to get my Specialist’s degree in Educational Leadership and pursue a career in administration. I would love the opportunity to create support in education from a higher level. My husband and I are excited to start a family one day, specifically through adoption. We are both very passionate about wanting to adopt in the future. We haven’t started the process yet, but we are anticipating that time with great excitement.

Any advice to give students currently attending Calvary? Appreciate the time you have. Graduating high school is fun and exciting! However, don’t rush your high school years away. When it is time to leave Calvary, take risks. Go outside of your comfort zone. You could surprise yourself with what you are capable of and where the Lord will take you. Above all else, listen to the voice of Christ. If you listen to His plan for you, you will grow and find more joy than you could have ever imagined.
